Comfort Scale Rating

Expected to rate a 6 on our 10 point Comfort Scale (a 1 is hard, 10 is softest.) the Beautyrest Black CX Class Plush mattress is a medium-plush comfort.  This level of comfort will appeal to most people as it's neither too firm nor too soft.  However, if you really like a very firm or a very soft feeling mattress then you could look into one of the other CX Class mattresses with comfort (medium) more suited to your preferences.

The CX-Class Plush mattress was tested with petite, average, and large body size people on their side and back sleeping positions to see what kind of support and comfort you can expect. (Learn how we test.) 

This mattress performed decently well picking up four out of six 'recommended' scores with only one 'not recommended' score. The pressure relief and back support you get from the bed seems to work best if you're a back sleeper, though it does do a pretty good job for most side sleepers.  The red areas you see in the shoulder and hip region of the larger-sized body on the side sleeper indicate a significant increase in pressure, so much that this bed would likely cause discomfort for that person.  Yellow colorations in the images show where there's a build-up of pressure, more than what is considered normal.  The green and light blue areas are the best ones to see because they represent good pressure relief and the proper amount of support needed for quality sleep.

You should always consider how good a bed's back support is when shopping for a new mattress because a properly supported back will align your spine and distribute your weight on the bed for maximum comfort.  Improper back support tweaks your back out of alignment and spinal alignment is crucial to getting quality sleep.  Your body needs to have pressure relief so that you don't get that numb sensation in your limbs that lead to tossing and turning for a fitful night's sleep.  This bed performed really well for back sleepers, but only ok for side sleepers.
